ooooh!

Looks like everyone's got the hots for Nashville right now. Just on the heels of a major movie shoot and Nylon's swing through town for the who and the what, ELLE.COM has followed suit with a Nashville City Guide that further explores our art, design, and food offerings. They put together their favorite picks of young restaurateurs, designers, crafters, and stylists and honored the "newfound chicness" of our southern culture that's come as a result of all this year's exposure. They had some nice things to say about Local Honey! Pretty awesome. Check it out HERE.

big love

Procured my newest issue of NYLON today, and though not usually a noteworthy event as I've had a subscription since year two and probably still have the very first issue stashed somewhere in my ridiculous mountain of saved magazines, this particular copy is special! During their recent cross-country cool hunt, associate editor Rebecca Davis and crew stopped in Nashville to sink their teeth into what makes our city hop- and I gotta say, they did their homework! Not only did they request an interview with moi about a week before they arrived, but by the time they got here they had contacted enough of my friends and done enough digging to send everyone into a tizzy. My phone was vibrating to death! What they put together might very well have been the exact collection of Nashville people I would have chosen to feature and I've lived here 11 years! So, hats off to NYLON, super pumped, and thanks to my amazing circle of vibrant, talented friends for the overwhelming love.

Check out my write-up below... and see the full Nashville review in the November issue!

BEST OF NASHVILLE 2010
Goods & Services: Writer's Picks

BEST DESIGNER DEN MOTHER: SHEA STEELE/LOCAL HONEY

We have long harbored a massive crush on Shea Steele. Who can resist a cute redhead whose business acumen is as sharp as her sense of style? Then again, those things are to be expected from the owner of Local Honey, the 12South boutique that's home to Nashville's largest collection of local indie fashion labels, including Valentine Valentine, Jamie & the Jones, Shannon Lea and Steele's own line, White Rabbit. In July, Steele celebrated five years of cultivating the city's most promising fledgling design talent with a cupcake-and-PBR-fueled house party/fashion show. If we're lucky, there are many more of these celebrations in Local Honey's future. -LIBBY CALLAWAY

PRESS on this!

The designers represented here are all under 30, mostly female and mostly self-taught. By day they alter garments for cash and work at boutiques and screenprinting shops. So they're forced to stitch on lunch breaks, rifle through fabric bins on weekends, and peruse blogs about Swedish, Japanese and Italian street fashion late at night, ever hungry for an innovative cut, an unexpected embellishment, or an offbeat combination of material swirl.

They haul their new creations to Local Honey and plop them on owner and designer Shea Steele's pristine countertop, hoping she'll give the nod that whisks these pieces off to the mighty black-and-silver rack and its intended audience: Nashville's cool kids.

They are the fashionable and young—the skinny-jeaned, vintage-bloused and tulip-skirted droves of young ladies you might see sipping coffee at Fido, lining up at Mercy Lounge or browsing vinyl at Grimey's. They're women who pride themselves on original style the way music geeks fetishize obscure vinyl.....

Hey, I'm in WAD!

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

WAD is a super hip Urban Fashion & Culture magazine based in France. Oh, and, I am utterly stoked to be in it! The magazine was invited to Nashville to attend the Jack Daniels "Legendary Mash", a 3-day musical event celebrating the relationship between music and the famous whiskey. (A relationship I definitely see fit to celebrate.) While on her tour of our fair city, Laura Walters decided to do a little digging and find the coolest places to shop in Nashville and she put together a list of her top 5 favorites! So, thank you Laura for including Local Honey.
